Life is a journey.
So I want to travel as much as I can.
Laos
Not many people may choose Laos as a first destionation to visit in Asia - but I was quite amazed by the beauty of the country, and saw a lot of potential for the country to be one of the most popular destinations in the region. It is bordered by Thailand, Burma, Cambodia, Vietnam and China - I would recommend anyone who is visiting the neighboring countries, to extend the trip for another week to see Laos. With its population of 6.5 million people, the country is quite poor - a third of them live on less than US$1.25 per day. I only visited big cities, the capital Ventiene and Luang Prabang, so I did not see it though - unlike Cambodia or Thailand, I did not see kids working on the street, or people begging money. Food prices were higher than in Cambodia, even for locals - I heard that most vegetables and ingredients are imported from Thailand since the country lacks the knowlegde and monpower to sustain themselves. My trip was only for 8 days, so I am sure what I saw was limited, but all I saw was the beauty - of the nature, people, and the way of living.
Vientiane
May 22, 2014-May 25, 2014
Vientiance is the capital of Laos, located near the Thai border. The population is estimated at 754,000 (2009); the city is small in size, and time passes by slowly than neighboring countries' big cities. There is an international airport, and the easiest way to access is fly via Bangkok. You can cross border from Thailand using the Frendship Bridge crossing the Mekong River as well!
Luang Prabang
May 25, 2014 - May 29, 2014
Luang Prabang is located in the north of Laos, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Once you place your foot there, you will see why it is so - time seems to have forgotten to move. Surrounded by Mekong River and Nam Kham River, with the population of only 50,000, Luang Prabang is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the beauty of the surrounding nature.
